Another chance for Vince Young, as Browns agree to sign former Titans quarterback

After quarterback Vince Young was dumped by the Packers last year, and then not picked up again, it looked like he was truly done in the NFL.

Then the Cleveland Browns brought Young in for a minicamp tryout this offseason, and figured Young deserved one more shot. They decided to sign the former University of Texas and Tennessee Titans quarterback on Thursday.

Don't get too excited yet, however. Young couldn't make the Packers last year even though they had no other options.

Young played for Green Bay in preseason, and then on the final cutdown the Packers got rid of Young despite having no backup quarterback. They signed Seneca Wallace before Week 1, even though Wallace was at the end of his NFL rope and didn't know Green Bay's offense. Then when Aaron Rodgers got hurt, the Packers went through Wallace, Scott Tolzien and his zero previous NFL experience and the limited Matt Flynn without ever giving Young a call. There were more than a few teams around the league who had quarterback injuries, and none of them called Young either. There was no reason to believe Young, who turns 31 later this month, would get another job.

The Browns see something in him. Again, he has a long way to go to play in another game that counts. The team also signed quarterback Tyler Thigpen. They have Brian Hoyer coming back from a knee injury. If the Browns draft a quarterback (and if they don't, they're foolish), it would be pretty tough for Young to make it.

Still, it's a chance. Unlike his opportunity with the Packers, when they signed Young after training camp started, Young has time to learn Cleveland's offense and make a good impression. You'd figure this is the last shot for Young, the former third overall pick of Tennessee in 2006. Then again, that's what we thought last year.
