Though the CenturyLink Field crowd roared itself into a frenzy during pregame ceremonies, it took only one play from scrimmage for Aldon Smith to shut them all up. The San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman both caused and recovered a fumble from Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the start of Sunday's NFC championship. The turnover gave the Niners the ball at the Seattle 15-yard line but Colin Kaepernick and co. couldn't completely capitalize on the early momentum shift and had to settle for a field goal.
The 49ers defense, however, continued to look stout, forcing a three-and-out on Seattle's next possession.
