Most NFL observers will downplay how important the 40-yard dash is at the NFL scouting combine.

Adidas has provided 100,000 reasons to disprove that assertion.

The international sports brand plans to award $100,000 to the player who runs the fastest 40-yard dash time in adidas’ adizero 5-Star 40 cleat. Obviously, nobody expects an offensive lineman to compete for this prize, but this should garner the interest of running backs, receivers, defensive backs and possibly a few quarterbacks.

"This weekend in Indianapolis is the biggest stage for speed and with adidas owning the lightest cleat in football – the adizero 5-Star – we wanted to make a statement," said Jeremy Darlow, senior brand and digital marketing manager for adidas Football.

There is a small catch - and we are talking pint-sized.

Combine participants are not required to wear adidas’ 5-Star 40 cleat, so technically the contest is only open to athletes who want to participate. Of course, it is hard to imagine any confident player turning down a chance at free money.

The adizero 5-Star 40 cleat is available at adidas.com for $150.

However, one NFL combine participant will be able to purchase plenty of adidas products with $100,000.
