San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver is a solid player, but if you remember his name, odds are it's because you remember him as the player who made anti-gay comments at the Super Bowl two seasons ago.
Culliver is back in the news, and it's not good this time around either.
ABC 7 News in the Bay Area reported that Culliver was in an accident and now faces hit-and-run charges. The story says Culliver made a U-turn, and an attorney for one of the witnesses said he "[l]ost a bit of control and ended up popping up on the sidewalk and striking a bicyclist." The car then fled the scene, and was followed for a mile by a witness, who cornered him in a neighborhood. The witness said Culliver jumped out of the car with a bag. Police arrested Culliver for possessing illegal brass knuckles, and he also faces felony hit-and-run charges, and driving on a suspended license according to ABC 7.
The 49ers released a statement that said they were aware of the incident and were in communication with Culliver and police to gather facts, ABC 7 said.
The 49ers were expecting Culliver, who missed last season with a torn ACL, to compete for a starting cornerback spot. Now, the team has to wait and see what kind of legal trouble Culliver finds himself in.
