WKU RB Leon Allen, arrested Sunday, also cited in March
It turns out last week’s public intoxication arrest wasn’t the only recent run-in with the law for Western Kentucky running back Leon Allen.
According to the Bowling Green Daily News, Allen was also cited on March 22 on charges of “alcohol intoxication in a public place, second-degree criminal trespassing, and menacing” after an incident at a bar. According to a police report, a Bowling Green police officer “deployed a Taser on him” during the confrontation.
The police report, via the Daily News, details that event:
"Upon arrival I located Allen in the lower level of the building," according to the police report. "Employees of the business asked Allen to leave several times due to him being belligerent yet he refused. I then ordered him to leave and he still refused. While attempting to reason with Allen, I noticed he was uneasy on his feet and slurred speech. He was manifestly under the influence of alcohol. Allen extended his index finger to an employee in a threatening manner, touching his shoulder.
"I drew my Taser and again ordered Allen to leave. He then opened his arms leaning forward taking a pugilistic stance. I believed Allen was preparing to become physical. Allen then appeared to aggressively and quickly approach me still refusing commands to stop and leave. I then deployed my Taser making contact with his upper left thigh. Allen stated he tripped and fell and was not being aggressive."
That previously unreported incident came two months before Allen’s arrest last Sunday on similar charges.
In the more recent incident, Allen was arrested at 3:10 a.m. after police stopped the vehicle he was a passenger in. The driver, former WKU linebacker Daqual Randall, was arrested for DUI and other charges, and Allen “became upset and verbally argumentative” after Randall’s arrest.
The police report from the incident said Allen "refused to comply with commands to remain in the vehicle," "had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on his person," and "had bloodshot eyes and was manifestly under the influence of alcohol."
In a statement to the Daily News, WKU acknowledged the incidents involving Allen, who was also arrested in Aug. 2013 for disorderly conduct.
“We are aware of the incidents, and along with going through the legal process, Leon will face additional internal discipline from the football program,” the statement said.
Allen led the Hilltoppers in rushing in 2014 with 1,542 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also added 74 catches for 624 yards and four touchdowns out of the backfield.
