Wisconsin regents set to vote on Under Armour apparel deal

It looks like Wisconsin is leaving Adidas for Under Armour.

The school's board of regents is scheduled to vote Friday on an athletic apparel deal with Under Armour. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the deal will be approved "barring a surprise move."

Here are the specifics on the deal per the Journal-Sentinel:

UW will receive $3.3 million in product during the first year of the deal to account for the increased product needs associated with the change from adidas to Under Armour. UW will receive $2.45 million in product in the second year of the deal. That total will increase incrementally after that, to $3.05 million in the 10th year.

UW will receive an annual amount of cash compensation from Under Armour to provide income to the athletic department.

The amount of annual cash compensation made under the existing contract with adidas varied from $750,000 in the first two years of the deal to $800,000 in the last three years. Under the proposed agreement with Under Armour, UW will receive an annual cash contribution of $4 million.

Not only is the cash contribution much improved in UA's proposal, so is the amount of product. Adidas is currently giving the school approximately $1.4 million in goods.

The deal would be another coup for Under Armour, who is increasing its market share in the college athletic space. The company also had its sights set on Texas after Nike declined to renew its contract with the Longhorns during the exclusive negotiating window.

However, Texas reportedly canceled a weekend meeting with Under Armour according to the Austin American-Statesman and the school appears set to continue with Nike. Texas' new contract is expected to surpass Michigan's as the biggest apparel deal in the country.
