West Virginia's Elijah Wellman cited in Morgantown riots after Baylor win

A West Virginia player was one of the people cited by Morgantown, W.V. police after celebratory riots broke out following the Mountaineers' win over Baylor Saturday.

Elijah Wellman, listed as a fullback/tight end on West Virginia's site, received one of 24 citations handed out in the aftermath of the game. He was charged with disorderly conduct.

Wellman redshirted in 2013 and, according to West Virginia's site, is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. In seven games this season he has two carries and three catches.

According to WBOY.com, 32 street fires and seven dumpster fires (no, not a euphemism for Florida's offense), were reported after the game.

The Morgantown Fire Marshal's Office reported there were 32 street fires and seven dumpster fires that required response by the Morgantown Fire Department. The Monongalia County Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency reported 114 emergency 911 calls as well as 135 non-emergency calls and 126 incidents requiring Public Safety Responses.

Additionally, three Morgantown Police Department Cruisers, two Morgantown Fire Marshal vehicles  and one fire engine, along with three West Virginia University patrol cars, one Monongalia County Patrol Car and one Westover Police Department Patrol Car were damaged by rocks, beer bottles and construction debris during the riot, according to Morgantown Police.

On Monday, West Virginia president Gordon Gee wrote a letter asking to "take our university back" after the events following the game.

Let me be clear: This is criminal behavior and individuals involved in setting fires, overturning trash bins or throwing objects at first responders WILL be held accountable. There is zero tolerance for this type of criminal and unruly behavior. Our Student Code of Conduct is clear on these matters and so is the law. We currently are reviewing the arrest records, as well as the videos and social media posts, to identify students involved. For those identified as participating in criminal activities, we will take swift and immediate disciplinary action – and for many, that will result in expulsion from this institution.
