West side of Texas A&M's Kyle Field will implode on Sunday

The west side of Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, which includes the press box and second and third decks, will be imploded on Sunday to make way for the final phase of the stadium’s $450 million remodel.

The new west side will include new luxury suites, upper decks, seats for fans, a state-of-the-art broadcasting facility for television media, and a Hall of Champions.

The west side also will have a mosaic of fan photos that have been collected by the university’s marketing department.

The implosion, which will happen around 8 a.m., will be streamed live and fans will be allowed to watch from near Reed Arena.

This implosion will begin the final push toward making Kyle Field the largest on-campus stadium in the state of Texas with a seating capacity of 102,512. All of the stadium construction should be complete for the start of the 2015 season.
