VOD: Did BYU make the right call going for the win?

Thursday night, BYU had a chance to become just the fourth program since 2000 to upset Boise State on its home blue turf -- and blew it.

The Cougars scored late and instead of tying the game with a PAT, they decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion. It failed and Boise Sate won 7-6.

Now, I'm all for going for the win, especially in a hostile environment on the road, but not with a freshman quarterback in his first real sustained playing time and not without any timeouts to try and get the ball back in case the conversion fails.

BYU didn't get into the end zone, Boise State ran out the clock and the Cougars were left lamenting about the one that got away.

This is now consecutive losses for BYU where a kick could have changed the outcome of the game. Last week, BYU missed a field goal — well, two field goals — at the end of the game to lose to rival Utah.

So, why is this the video of the day? Because I want to know from fans whether coach Bronco Mendenhall made the right decision to go for the two-point conversion or whether it's a decision that might come back to bite the Cougars beloved head coach?

My personal opinion? It was a bad decision. You have the momentum, but no timeouts. Take the tie and take the momentum into overtime. The BYU defense was playing well enough to preserve the tie in the final minutes of regulation and that also would have given BYU quarterback Taysom Hill a chance to settle down after the big score and ready for the next drive.
