In the college football world, the month of July is all about conditioning and weight training for the players. The grind of early morning workouts is definitely rigorous, but it’s necessary to in order to be ready for fall practice and when the season finally rolls around.
For Northwestern, their usual early morning workout got a bit of a shake up on June 26. The players were led to the campus’ north beach on Lake Michigan for a grueling military-style workout and team building exercise.
A video crew was on hand and put together this footage, which was released on Wednesday.
According to the video’s description, the Northwestern coaching staff brought in the Acumen Performance Group, a group whose mission is to “improve the teamwork, communication and mental toughness of their trainees.” Some of these exercises are used by the United States Navy SEALs.
Demanding workouts like this can prove dividends during a long season, which begins on August 30 for the Wildcats against Cal.
