Virginia Tech unveils new helmets – again (PHOTOS)

Virginia Tech is hoping yet another helmet change will reverse the Hokies fortunes.

Just hours before kickoff, Virginia Tech’s equipment Twitter feed (@VTFBEquipment) released a photo of the helmets the Hokies are wearing against Rutgers in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Friday night.

The helmets are matte maroon with the silhouette of a turkey on the side in orange. They also have a ribbon on the back honoring the victims of the shooting in Newtown, Conn., a couple weeks ago.

No team has had more helmet changes (sans Oregon) than Virginia Tech and they all been strange. From turkey feet to fighting turkeys to today’s silhouette, Virginia Tech seems to be just looking for something to stick.

I will say, this one is probably the best out of the trio. It has an old feel to it. Don’t ask me to explain that, it just does. And, if there’s one positive for Virginia Tech, it’s that the Hokies have won each game where they’ve introduced a new helmet this year (Austin Peay, Bowling Green and Boston College).
