This sort of thing doesn't happen to Baylor, which is preparing for just its second bowl game since 1994. Before Griffin, just two players had won national awards, and one of them was punter Daniel Sepulveda, who won the Ray Guy award twice. But in the span of 48 hours, Griffin won both the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback and the Heisman, basically putting Baylor football on the national map overnight. The school even took out a full-page ad in the New York Times to celebrate the accomplishment.

Griffin's success will resonate in recruiting, applications for admission and attendance. Baylor will feel the effects of Griffin's contributions well after he has left the program.

And the Baylor fans watching the Heisman Trophy presentation will always have a good story to tell about where they were when Baylor and Griffin made history.
