Vernon Adams not listed as a graduate of EWU ... yet

Former Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams could be the successor to Marcus Mariota at Oregon. However, he needs to officially graduate from EWU to complete his transfer to Oregon.

The runner-up for the Walter Payton Award – the FCS version of the Heisman – the past two seasons, announced his decision to transfer to Oregon in February. As a graduate transfer, he's got one more season of eligibility and can play immediately. After he's officially done at Eastern Washington.

According to the Oregonian, Adams is not listed among EWU's spring quarter graduates.

EWU's roster of spring graduates "reflects students who have earned their degree as of the spring quarter, 2015 at EWU," wrote an EWU spokesman by email. "Students who have not earned their diploma are not on the list."

Adams walked at EWU's graduation ceremony but has said previously he needs to finish a math class to have all of his credits complete. Until those credits are complete, he can't enroll as a graduate student at Oregon. He didn't immediately respond back to the paper for comment about EWU's list, though accordong to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman, Adams is not behind on completing the class.

So no, it's not time for Duck fans to panic. The Oregonian lists Oregon's football practice start date as August 10. EWU's summer term ends August 14. Potentially missing some practice time if he doesn't complete the math class until the end of the summer term isn't obviously ideal. But it's a situation that is certainly feasible.

Adams will compete with Jeff Locke, Mariota's backup, for the starting quarterback job. In three seasons at EWU, Adams threw for 10,438 yards and 110 touchdowns and had 1,232 yards rushing and 11 TDs on the ground. He was also recruited by Texas and UCLA before he chose Oregon.
