Three Pitt players get detained during huge SWAT drug bust
Three Pitt football players who police found to be using or in possession of drug paraphernalia were apparently at the wrong place at precisely the wrong time, in the best-case scenario at least.
According to the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, police, undercover officers, and SWAT members busted into a house in Oakland, Pa. to arrest 22-year-old Darnell Reed-Young as part of an ongoing investigation. The report said the police seized 20 bags of heroin, a marijuana bong, and a copper grinder.
According to the CBS report, Pitt junior tight end Drew Carswell, junior defensive tackle Khaynin Mosley-Smith and junior defensive back Eric Williams were also there at the time of the massive drug bust and they were detained by officers.
Not good.
The players were detained "for use or possession of drug paraphernalia" according to the report, and will be sent an arrest summons in the mail. It seems they weren't the big fish the police were after.
While it isn't clear exactly what the players were doing when the SWAT team busted in, anything that involves getting an arrest summons mailed to you is certainly bad. Pitt coach Paul Chryst immediately suspended the trio from the team.
“We have strict and clear standards regarding these types of behaviors,” Chryst said in a statement. “What has occurred with these three young men does not represent the standards of our program or university.”
