Texas LB Steve Edmond is not over losing to Baylor in 2013, calls Baylor 'trash'

Texas LB Steve Edmond hasn't forgotten about the Longhorns' loss to Baylor at the end of 2013. And it's fair to say he's still bitter about it.

Despite a middling season, Texas traveled to Baylor at the end of the season with the chance to win the Big 12. Thanks to Oklahoma State's loss to Oklahoma, if Texas would have beaten the Bears on the road, it'd have gotten the Big 12's Fiesta Bowl berth.

Baylor won 30-10.

"We could have won the conference," Edmond said after Texas' spring game Saturday (via the Dallas Morning News). "Even though I didn't get a chance to play in the Baylor game, I really feel like we should have beat Baylor. I really don't like Baylor. I still think they're trash."

Edmond missed the game after being hurt against Texas Tech the week prior.

"I don't understand how we lost to Baylor," Edmond said. "The defense was playing good but the offense just wasn't scoring. Any team can get beat if the offense isn't scoring and the defense shuts the other team down. Eventually you're going to give up a point or something."

Or 30 points. Which was the second-fewest points Baylor scored in a single game all year. Baylor lineman Patrick Colbert had the perfect response on Twitter.

We get Edmond's frustration, when you've been one of the best teams in the conference and state for so long, it's tough to relinquish the conference to another in-state school. In winning the conference last year, Baylor became the third Texas team to win a Big 12 title. Texas has three while Texas A&M and Baylor each have one.

As Baylor has sustained recent success with three different starting quarterbacks, it's not going anywhere either. Edmond and Texas should probably get used to it. But if his comments are any indication of how the rest of the team feels about Baylor, maybe Texas doesn't need to play Texas A&M anytime soon to have a heated rivalry game.
