Texas LB Dalton Santos had a plea for his Twitter followers earlier in the week. And now the YouCaring page set up for his mother is not far from its goal.

On Sunday, Santos tweeted a link to the page for his mother. His mother, Mary Vista Santos, has an aortic aneurysm and needs surgery. She does not have health insurance.

After first being set at $5,000 the goal on the site is now set at $75,000. Less than a week after his tweet, more than $60,000 has been raised. We're pretty confident the goal will be hit pretty soon.

Before you ask, no, it's not an NCAA violation. (And yes, it's sad to think an effort like this could be a violation, but given some NCAA rules, you never know.)

Mary was diagnosed on April 18 with the aneurysm with Dalton by her side in a hospital in Tyler, Texas. He played in Texas' spring game the next day in Austin, a four-hour drive away.

Dalton Santos said he'll find out Monday when his mom will have the surgery and it could cost as much as $150,000.

“It breaks me up inside to see that people really care,” he told the San Antonio Express-News. “It’s humbling. I’m so grateful and so thankful.”

Especially because he said he wasn't expecting it to take off like it did.

“I didn’t expect much — maybe a couple thousand, a couple hundred,” Santos said. “It’s just unbelievable.”
