Texas’ first play, out of the wishbone, was very cool (VIDEO)

Texas coach Mack Brown promised to run the first play of Saturday's game out of the wishbone formation, as a tribute to Darrell Royal, the legendary Texas coach who passed away this week. Royal is credited with bringing the wishbone to college football, in 1968.

Texas' call and execution on the play made it one of the more memorable moments of the season so far.

When the Longhorns lined up with three backs in the wishbone set, the crowd roared in a true goosebumps moment. Three yards and a cloud of dust might have been a fitting play, but Texas wanted a little more and put a modern twist on the old tough guy formation.

Quarterback David Ash pitched to Jaxon Shipley, and it looked like a run to the right. But Shipley stopped and threw it back to Ash, who threw deep downfield to tight end Greg Daniels. Daniels hauled in the pass for a 47-yard gain.

Royal might not have drawn up many plays that looked like that when he was Texas' coach, but everything about this one was perfect.
