Texas A&M WR Speedy Noil likely out against SMU

Texas A&M WR Speedy Noil will probably miss Saturday's game against SMU after he suffered a knee injury against Rice.

Kevin Sumlin announced Tuesday that Noil, a freshman, would likely not play.

Noil has been reported to suffer a sprained MCL and could miss 3-5 weeks with the injury. Sumlin said Noil's injury would be evaluated after the SMU game.

Texas A&M laid down new sod on the field as part of renovations to Kyle Field. The new turf coupled with heavy rains in the days before the game meant the field was comung up in chunks against Rice. According to Texas A&M's athletic director, doctors said any injuries sustained in the game had nothing to do with the field conditions.

A five-star recruit out of high school according to Rivals, Noil has been an integral part of Texas A&M's offense. Through parts of three games this year, Noil is A&M's second-leading receiver and has 12 catches and 197 yards and a touchdown. However, the Aggies may be able to cope with his absence if he's out for a while. Five A&M players have double-digit receptions and eight different players have caught a touchdown pass.
