Tennessee dismisses WR Pig Howard for undisclosed rules violation

Wide receiver Pig Howard has been dismissed from the Tennessee football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules, coach Butch Jones announced Wednesday.

"You try to impact every person that comes in your program," Jones said. "It’s all about choices and decisions. It’s unfortunate, but we have to continue to move forward."

Howard, a senior, already had missed three games this season — the season opener because of disciplinary reasons and the last two contests because of a concussion.

Howard was the team’s leading receiver a year ago with 54 catches for 618 yards and a touchdown.

This season, he has just one catch for eight yards.

As Howard has struggled to stay in the lineup, the Vols have found receiving replacements in Ethan Wolf, Preston Williams and Josh Malone. However, the Vols passing game still ranks 85th in the country and 11th in the SEC.
