The whole "pick a hat" tradition on national signing day is a little odd, but it is a tradition. Like players wearing ugly suits to the NBA draft, we expect to see a high-school senior reach down and put on a baseball cap to announce his decision.
Receiver Stacy Coley not only announced his college decision with his hat, but he made a proclamation about his way of life at the same time.
Coley, rated as a four-star receiver by Rivals.com from Oakland Park, Fla., had his announcement on ESPNU. And when he put on the hat, it was a "Swag" hat. Ball So Hard University must have been crushed. Of course "Swag" was a University of Miami (Fla.) hat, so he'll be a Hurricane in the fall. He also deserves a salute from the Hurricanes' marketing department, because there will be many Miami fans searching for that green and orange hat online to get one. It is a pretty sweet hat, and drew plenty of attention, and jokes on the ESPNU set as well. Pretty funny headgear choice by Coley. It was definitely more memorable than most hat stunts.
If nothing else, Coley will come in with confidence. He'll fit right in at The U.
