South Carolina-LSU game could be moved from Williams-Brice Stadium

Saturday’s South Carolina-LSU game could be moved away from Williams-Brice Stadium.

According to The State, Gamecocks athletic director Ray Tanner said Tuesday that the plan is to keep the game at home, but other options are being explored as the Columbia area deals with the aftermath of flooding from weekend storms.

“Our situation regarding football is ongoing. We’re not 100 percent sure at this time that we’ll have a game here at Williams-Brice,” Tanner said. “We will continue to monitor the infrastructure that is necessary to have a football game.”

The stadium and surrounding campus emerged from the storm largely unscathed, but the issue is the logistics in the surrounding area.

Tanner mentioned local highways, the water situation at the stadium and issues with first responders and police as concerns.

Tanner said several options have been discussed, including moving the game to LSU. Additionally, the Charlotte Observer is reporting that South Carolina has reached out to the Carolina Panthers about potentially moving the game to Charlotte.

The Advocate is reporting that officials prefer to keep the game in Columbia with the second option being a neutral site.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the first preference is to keep the game in Columbia. The second is to play the game at a neutral site. The third option would be to move the game to Tiger Stadium.

Tanner said that he and other school officials hope to reach a decision within the next “24-36 hours.”
