SEC will get even stronger with formal announcement of TV network next week

The Southeastern Conference is the undisputed king of college football. A dedicated SEC television network was obviously going to become a reality at some point, and now it's very close to being official.

Sports Business Daily reported that the SEC and ESPN will announce the creation of the channel next Tuesday. This network has been in the planning stages for more than a year, and the report says the network should officially launch in August of 2014.

There's no reason the network won't be a huge hit, with its rabid fan base and overall interest from around the country, and that will just make the league stronger. Even if that doesn't seem possible.

The top benefits to having a television network are money (as the successful Big Ten Network has shown), exposure for the schools and recruiting. And, money and exposure also feed into recruiting, so we should all know where this is heading.

The SEC is already dominating recruiting. In February, Rivals ranked the top 10 recruiting classes and six were SEC teams. Of Rivals' top 28 classes, 13 were from the SEC. And the league's recruiting is only going to get stronger with the SEC network starting up? Oh, my.

The SEC's new network is a win for all college football fans, because there will be more exposure to the best teams and games the sport has to offer. It's just not the best development for all the schools elsewhere around the country.
