Two days after five Rutgers players were arrested for assault, the program announced Saturday that all five – Nadir Barnwell, Dre Boggs, Ruhann Peele, Delon Stephenson and Razohnn Gross – have been dismissed from the program.

Rutgers announced the news Saturday morning, just minutes before it opened its season at home against Norfolk State.

All five players were charged with aggravated assault, riot, and conspiracy to commit a riot stemming from their alleged involvement in an April attack on a group of at least four individuals. They were arrested Thursday at the team facility.

Additionally, Boggs was also charged with robbery, burglary while armed and conspiracy to commit an armed robbery” for allegedly participating in multiple home invasions alongside Tejay Johnson, a former Rutgers player whose career ended in July 2014 due to injury.

Barnwell was also involved in an investigation into head coach Kyle Flood. Flood is reportedly emailed a faculty member about Barnwell’s grade. Barnwell had reportedly been dealing with academic eligibility issues throughout the offseason.

Barnwell, a junior defensive back, started 10 games for the Scarlet Knights over the past two seasons and was expected to start this season.

Boggs, a sophomore, played in 10 games as a freshman in 2014 at cornerback and was expected to start this season as well.

Peele, a redshirt junior, moved to cornerback from wide receiver and was expected to provide depth in the secondary. He played in 13 games with four starts in 2013 and had 28 receptions.

Stephenson, another defensive back, started six games at free safety last season and registered 37 tackles and two tackles for loss while Gross, a fullback, has not seen game action in his two seasons on campus.

The Scarlet Knights also suspended five players for the first half of the Norfolk State game due to curfew violations.
