Reports: Former Mizzou WR Dorial Green-Beckham visits Oklahoma

Since Dorial Green-Beckham was dismissed from Missouri for multiple violations of team rules in April, there have been several rumors and reports detailing the former No. 1 nation recruit’s next move.

Green-Beckham was reported to be mulling a transfer to FCS Eastern Illinois and was also rumored to be sitting out 2014 in order to declare for the 2015 NFL Draft. Then, a few weeks ago, rumors began to swirl that there was mutual interest between Green-Beckham and Oklahoma.

That interest between Green-Beckham and Oklahoma seems to have taken a next step on Thursday, as Rivals Oklahoma affiliate SoonerScoop.com was the first to report that Green-Beckham was visiting the OU campus in Norman.

After a bit of confusion whether OU coaches were in Norman, other outlets including Fox Sports and The Oklahoman, among others, have confirmed that Green-Beckham is indeed on campus.

Even though we are currently in a recruiting dead period, Green-Beckham is apparently able to visit the OU campus and meet with coaches if he has signed a financial aid agreement, which is different than a national letter of intent.

Dead periods do apply to potential transfers, so in that sense, Green-Beckham and Oklahoma would ordinarily be violating NCAA rules. However, according to John Infante, if Green-Beckham signed a financial aid agreement with Oklahoma, then “dead periods do not apply.”

From Infante:

“And because Green-Beckham is not a midyear enrollee intending to graduate high school early … Oklahoma is not at risk for a violation of the letter of intent restrictions if Green-Beckham, does not ultimately enroll at OU.”

Several reporters spotted Green-Beckham with OU receivers coach Jay Norvell and recruiting coordinator Cale Gundy outside the Sooners’ football building.

Gundy had an interesting response when asked if Green-Beckham had indeed signed a financial aid agreement.

It remains to be seen if Green-Beckham will actually sign with the Sooners. Though he has lived up to the hype on the football field, he has been involved in several off-the-field incidents. Green-Beckham, also known as “DGB,” was arrested twice on marijuana charges during his time at Mizzou and was eventually dismissed following a “physical altercation” where he allegedly pushed a female and caused her to fall down several stairs.

He was not charged in the incident.

Following the latter incident, Green-Beckham released a statement saying that he was “young and dumb” and that he’d take responsibility for his “conduct and mistakes.” He also said that he would enter counseling in attempts to be “stronger emotionally and spiritually.”

In two seasons with the Tigers, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Green-Beckham caught 87 passes for 1,278 yards and 17 touchdowns. Green-Beckham, a native of Springfield, Mo., was the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2012 according to Rivals, and was recruited by Oklahoma before choosing to play for in-state Missouri.
