Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to take same post at Louisville
Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is leaving the Bulldogs to take the same position with Louisville, Georgia coach Mark Richt announced Sunday.
Grantham, who was offered a 5-year contract worth $1 million per year, joins newly-named head coach Bobby Petrino, who is now in his second stint as the Cardinals’ head coach.
Grantham spent four seasons with the Bulldogs and three times coached one of the nation’s top-40 scoring defenses. However, this past season the Bulldogs struggled with eight new starters and finished 11th in the SEC with 29.4 points allowed (79th nationally) and eighth in the SEC in total yards with 381.2.
On Dec. 2, Richt announced he was keeping Grantham for the 2014 season despite calls for the defensive coordinator’s job.
The move comes just days after secondary coach Scott Lakatos resigned for personal reasons.
Grantham, who made $850,000 per year at Georgia, was known for his sideline antics. During the 2010 Florida-Georgia game, Grantham gave the choke sign to Florida kicker Chas Henry as he lined up for the winning kick. Henry made the field goal.
In 2011, Grantham got into a verbal altercation with Vanderbilt Coach James Franklin following their contest.
