Two Texas wide receivers charged with sexual assault (Updated)

Two University of Texas football players Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander, both wide receivers, were charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony, for an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of June 21.

Sanders is facing an additional charge of “improper photography.”

According to Orangebloods.com, $75,000 bail has been set for both players, plus Sanders has an additional $20,000 bail for the "improper photography" charge.

The incident allegedly occurred after Sanders and Meander met the alleged victim, who they had known prior to the alleged incident, on 6th Street in Austin the night of June 20. According to court documents obtained by Orangebloods, the alleged victim, who was unnamed, told police that she agreed to return to Meander's dorm and have consensual sex with him.

After Meander and the alleged victim engaged in consensual sex for "several minutes," Sanders knocked on the door. Meander allowed Sanders to enter the room while the alleged victim "stayed in the bed underneath the covers." Sanders then, per court documents, took off his clothes and forced himself on the alleged victim without her consent while Meander went to the bathroom.

"The victim told Sanders to stop and that she did not like what was happening. Sanders told the victim she would like it and that it would feel good," the court affadavit says.

(The affadavit for Sanders and Meander's arrests can be read here. It is extremely graphic.)

The document then graphically details Sanders forcing himself on the victim, including vaginal and anal intercourse. Meander then came back in the room and, along with Sanders, "forcibly penetrated the victim."

Additionally, the victim told police she remembers a "flash" and suspected "the use of a cell phone to take a video or photo of her."

A sexual assault was subsequently reported to University of Texas police at 3:43 a.m. that night. When officers arrived, the affadavit says the victim was found crying underneath a desk. Sanders and Meander were interviewed by police soon after and gave written consent for detectives to search their cell phones for pictures. "At least one photo of the victim" was found on Sanders' phone.

“All three individuals involved knew each other, and the two suspects have been cooperating with the investigation,” UT police said in a statement.

Both players have been suspended indefinitely by coach Charlie Strong.

Sanders, a 6-foot, 190-pound junior, started seven games for the Longhorns last season, catching 37 passes for 361 yards and one score. Meander took a redshirt in his first year on campus in 2013.
