Report: Ohio State spent $600K more than Oregon on CFP

Yeah, Ohio State and Oregon made a nice bit of money for making the first College Football Playoff Championship, but they also spent a big chunk of change to get there.

According to CBS Sports, the Buckeyes spent $4.4 million to get to the Sugar Bowl and the title game while Oregon spent $3.8 million for the Rose Bowl and title game.

The entire list of expenses and accompanying chart is fascinating and we highly recommend you take a look. Here are a few points from it:

• Ohio State and Oregon's per-game expenditures weren't the highest of the four teams participating in the playoff. Alabama spent the most of anyone for the Sugar Bowl, spending approximately $2.6 million to send over 900 people – yes, over 900 – to the game. Almost half of those were classified under "band and cheerleaders," according to CBS.

• The largest per-person expenditure was made by Florida State for its trip to the Rose Bowl. The Seminoles spent approximately $2.3 million for its trip to the game, but with a traveling party of 621 people, its per-person average was a whopping $3,741 (remember, Florida State traveled completely across the country for the game).

• As CBS notes, accounting is done by each school, but it's highly likely each of the four didn't lose money because of the increased payouts via the College Football Playoff.

• Each of the four teams didn't sell out their entire ticket allotment. While some of the unsold allotment would be for complimentary tickets for each team's VIPs, the lowest number of unsold tickets belonged to Ohio State at the Sugar Bowl with 1,004. At the lowest price of $175 a ticket, that's a minimum cost of $175,700 to the school.
