Report: Marijuana charge against Louisville WR James Quick dismissed
Nearly three months after being cited for allegedly possessing of 39.5 grams of marijuana, the drug charge against Louisville wide receiver James Quick has been dismissed.
According to WDRB in Louisville, Quick has been “participating in a marijuana education and intervention program” since he was cited on May 26. After completing the program, “both sides agreed to dismiss the case” because Quick was a first time offender.
Quick, a sophomore, has been working out and practicing with the team while the charge was pending. Head coach Bobby Petrino said earlier this month at the team’s media day that Quick has done “a nice job” and everything asked of him since the incident occurred.
At media day on August 9, per the Courier-Journal, Quick said that he was “talking to the coaches every day” and “making sure (he) stayed out of trouble.”
Police said that Quick, along with Kentucky defensive end Jason Hatcher – Quick’s high school teammate – were at Quick’s off-campus apartment when a complaint of the smell of marijuana was called in. Police citations say that officers found Quick in possession of 39.5 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and a marijuana grinder. Hatcher, whose charge was dismissed in June, was found with 2.5 grams in his pocket.
Quick, a Rivals.com four-star recruit in the Cardinals’ 2013 class, appeared in nine games last season, catching six passes for 73 yards. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Quick impressed with five catches for 152 yards and a touchdown in Louisville’s spring game.
Now that his legal troubles are out of the picture, he could be in line for major playing time when the season rolls around against Miami on September 1.
