Florida State quarterback De’Andre Johnson has formally been charged with misdemeanor battery, according to ESPN.com.

The state attorney’s office has reportedly issued a warrant for the arrest of Johnson, who is accused of punching a 21-year-old woman at a bar in Tallahassee on June 24. Assistant state attorney Georgia Cappleman told ESPN that state attorney Willie Meggs decided to charge Johnson after reviewing security footage of the incident from inside the bar.

The incident reportedly occurred after the woman cut in front of Johnson.

From ESPN:

According to the sources, Johnson was involved in an argument with the woman after she cut in front of him while they were waiting to order drinks at a bar near the FSU campus. Witnesses told police the woman raised her arms and then Johnson grabbed them and punched her in the face.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher indefinitely suspended Johnson, a true freshman, on Thursday. A four-star recruit from Jacksonville, Johnson enrolled at FSU in January after graduating from high school early.

Johnson was behind junior Sean Maguire on the depth chart throughout spring practice and was not expected to compete with Maguire and Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson for the Seminoles’ starting quarterback role. The 6-foot, 177-pound Johnson could be a candidate for a redshirt.
