Purdue's social media day is back in 2014 and there's an added bonus this year.
The school is offering any student the chance to have his or her picture featured inside the "P" logo on the football team's helmet during the social media day game against Iowa on September 27 according to the Big Ten Network.
The catch is the purchase of a VIP card within the next week. The card is an all-sports pass which, let's be honest, is a must when you're a sports fan in college to enjoy all the games you can. Even if you're at a school like Purdue, which was 1-11 last season in football and 15-17 in men's basketball.
It's not a new promotion; NASCAR teams have been doing similar ones by putting fans' faces on cars. But the pictures are very small, and judging by the look of that Purdue helmet, students aren't going to be able to tell mom and dad at home to look for their face. It'd be impossible to find on television without a microscope. It's at least fun to brag about though, right?
It is still an intuitive idea for football; added bonuses for fans to attend games after such a lousy year are necessary. If it works, could fan pictures become the new helmet fad?
