Social media nights have become a commonplace promotion during sporting events and Purdue is joining in on the trend Saturday during its football game against Ohio State.
Before the game, the university will hold a social media scavenger hunt and in addition to contests throughout the game, fans will be able to vote on Twitter for what song Purdue will run on the field to in the second half. (What Does the Fox Say? Need we say more?)
And if you like Purdue's Facebook page, you can get a free keychain. How can you say no to that?
But given that the opponent is Ohio State, this could be a double-edged sword. While fan engagement through social channels has become a big goal for anyone with a brand, the undefeated Buckeyes are 32 point favorites over the 1-6 Boilermakers. That social media chatter could quickly turn negative. (Hopefully the Purdue social media managers haven't made any bets with Ohio State's.)
Though let's be honest. Purdue is 1-6 after all. What would be said on Saturday that hasn't already been said this season?
