The Penn State ticketing department got a little overzealous with its ticket sales for Saturday’s clash with Michigan.

According to Onward State, Penn State Athletics oversold student section tickets for the annual White Out game over the summer, which will lead to the possibility of the student section being over capacity on Saturday night. Penn State attributed the mistake to a Ticketmaster glitch.

In an attempt to resolve the mishap, an email was sent to students offering the option to trade in their student section ticket for one of three packages:

• A 50 percent discount on a guaranteed student season ticket for 2014 or two free tickets to next year’s homecoming game.
• A $200 donation to THON in the student’s name.
• Pre-game field access to a future 2013 home game – Illinois, Purdue or Nebraska.

Additionally, each of these packages features a seat in the upper level of the south end zone at Beaver Stadium, $10 in Lion Cash (money on a PSU ID card that can be used on PSU’s campus and in various places in State College), and the official (and awful) whiteout T-shirt.

If I was still a Penn State student, I’d jump all over the first package to have a guaranteed ticket at half price. Season tickets usually cost PSU students more than $200. Plus, you have to wake up early during the summer to buy the tickets when they go on sale at 7 a.m. before they sell out. That’s a pretty solid deal.
