Paul Finebaum will host live call-in show during the Iron Bowl
While Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer handle the broadcast duties for Saturday’s showdown between Auburn and Alabama, the SEC Network will give fans a different perspective of the Iron Bowl.
In addition to the 7:45 p.m. ET broadcast on ESPN (the first time the Iron Bowl is on ESPN since 2007), Paul Finebaum will do a special version of his radio simulcast on SEC Network during the game, according to Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch. Titled “Finebaum Film Room: Iron Bowl Live,” the special will include fans calling in throughout the show and split-screen views of Finebaum on the show’s set and the live game.
“We hope fans will call in and you can get fan reaction as the game is going live,” ESPN senior vice president of college sports programming Burke Magnus told SI. “The feeling for us was this is authentically SEC. Paul is sort of the cornerstone voice of the network in a lot of ways, from his daily radio show to his work on SEC Nation. It is something we have not tried before and we felt like this was unique to the SEC."
For anyone familiar with the SEC-crazed fans who call in to the Finebaum show, this ought to be a very unique viewing experience.
After gaining immense popularity with his Birmingham, Ala., based program, Finebaum’s radio show went the simulcast route earlier this year with the launch of the SEC Network.
