Oregon QB Marcus Mariota ticketed after he 'Can't Drive 55'

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota was ticketed for speeding during the Ducks’ bye week after going 80 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone.

This might be the first time Mariota has appeared in the media for doing something wrong off the field.

But, in grand Mariota’s fashion, even the police officer who ticketed Mariota had nothing but glowing things to say about the entire ordeal.

"Mr. Mariota was polite and respectful, he was professional and took the citation appropriately and acted appropriately," state police Lt. Josh Brooks told oregonlive.com. "Everybody gets tickets and 80 in a 55 is a tad fast. We send you on your way, it's just that."

Normally, speeding tickets wouldn’t be news, though as Brooks points out, 80 is a little fast. However, what is notable about the ticket (other than the $260 fine) is that Mariota’s court date is Dec. 11, the same day he’s supposed to be in Orlando for the Home Depot College Football Awards show.

Likely, Mariota will just pay the fine and go about his merry way.

Unfortunately for Colorado, the Ducks opponent this weekend, a speeding ticket probably won’t result in any sort of suspension, but hey, wishful thinking.

This is, however, a nice reminder that Mariota is human and, apparently, likes to go fast on and off the field.
