Oh, those tricky Oregon Ducks.
After UCLA scored on its opening drive to jump out to a 7-0 lead, the Bruins defense quickly forced an Oregon punt from the 26-yard line. On fourth and 14, instead of kicking the ball back to the Bruins, Mark Helfrich opted to take a gutsier approach: a fake.
The long snapper snapped the ball directly to one of the upbacks, linebacker Rodney Hardrick. With the Bruins expecting the punt, Hardrick had an enormous hole to run through, and he capitalized with a 66-yard gain.
The Ducks went on to score two plays later on a De’Anthony Thomas run to tie the game at 7-7.
