Oklahoma WR Jordan Smallwood out with ACL injury

Oklahoma took a hit to its depth at wide receiver on Monday.

Sooners’ head coach Bob Stoops confirmed that redshirt sophomore wideout Jordan Smallwood is out indefinitely after tearing the ACL in his left knee during spring practice. Smallwood will miss the rest of the spring and summer and at least the first few games of the 2015 season, Stoops said.

Smallwood appeared in all 13 games for the Sooners in 2014 and caught three passes for 21 yards. This is the second major injury for the 6-foot-2, 208-pound Smallwood during his Oklahoma career. He was forced to redshirt the 2013 season after breaking his foot during the preseason.

Smallwood’s injury was the second dose of bad news on Monday for Oklahoma’s offense. Stoops also announced Monday that running back Keith Ford is indefinitely suspended for academic and team rules violations. Ford rushed for 369 yards and five touchdowns last season, but missed time after suffering a leg injury. He then fell behind standout freshman Samaje Perine on the depth chart.

Oklahoma is scheduled to play its spring game on April 11.
