An intrasquad game at the end of spring practice is a tradition at most schools. Oklahoma State is usually one of those schools, but this year the school will have an open practice instead of a game.

The school announced the decision Tuesday that the April 5 event, dubbed “The Orange Blitz,” will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboys will practice for approximately 90 minutes, then fans will be invited onto the field to meet with the coaching staff and the playoffs.

The practice will feature “position work, one-on-one drills and team periods” instead of a usual structured game with officials that ordinarily concluded spring practice in previous years.

Spring games customarily give fans a glimpse into what their team will look like on the field in the coming year and also offer a look at some of the younger players who may be a year or two away from seeing the field.

Oklahoma State isn’t the only school that won’t hold a spring game this year. Texas A&M won't have a spring game, but the school made the decision for different reasons. The renovation project to Kyle Field will prevent the school from holding a spring game in both 2014 and 2015.
