Ohio State signee Mirko Jurkovic signs with Georgia after academic issue

Offensive lineman Mirko Jurkovic, a three-star prospect from IMG Academy, tweeted Monday that he was attending Georgia this fall after originally committing to Ohio State.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Jurkovic was denied admission to Ohio State because of academics, but apparently Georgia’s academic requirements aren’t nearly as stringent. UGASports.com, citing a source, said it wasn’t academics, but rather the fact that Ohio State had exceeded its scholarship limit that left Jurkovic available.

Either way, Ohio State’s loss is Georgia’s gain.

Jurkovic had 22 offers out of high school and, shockingly, Georgia was not one of them. But once Jurkovic became a free agent, the Bulldogs pounced. Notre Dame also courted Jukovic, but wanted him to first attend nearby Holy Cross College.

Jurkovic is the son of former Notre Dame All-American Mirko Jurkovic Sr., and the nephew of John Jurkovic who played nine years in the NFL.
