North Carolina is hosting No. 10 Miami for its self-proclaimed “Zero Dark Thursday” game, and for the contest, the Tar Heels are going to wear their alternate black uniforms.

Of course, North Carolina is known for its baby blue and white, but coach Larry Fedora told the Tar Heel Sports Network that traditionalists shouldn’t be against the black.

“To me, it was only natural, because tar is black,” Fedora said. “We just introduced the tar into the uniforms. We’ll never get away from being Carolina blue, that’s who we are. That’s not going to change, but I thought this was a great alternative.”

I’m always a fan of black uniforms for these special night games and I like the baby blue on black. Also, Fedora’s justification for introducing the black keeps the tradition while adding a stylish alternative to attract recruits because let’s be honest, that’s who these uniforms are geared toward.
