Nick Saban agrees to contract extension at Alabama

So can we put the rumors to rest now?

Alabama coach Nick Saban has agreed to a contract extension at Alabama, per ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit, who first reported it.

Alabama confirmed the news.

The extension is the second one in less than a year for Saban, who had previously agreed to one in March. The March extension raised his salary to $5.62 million and the contract went to 2020. The new extension is expected to be in the range of $7-7.5 million according to TideSports.com.

This likely takes Saban out of play for any possibilities at the University of Texas, where the coaching situation has not changed. At the Texas football banquet Friday night, coach Mack Brown addressed those in attendance and did not remark about his future.

Reports earlier this week said that Brown would be resigning by the end of the week. Well, unless something happens this weekend, that's not happening.

The same site that had originally reported Brown's future resignation said that a "prominent" high school coach had been told Brown was staying at Texas.

Texas is set to play Oregon in the Alamo Bowl while Alabama will play Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
