In the mind of Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez, there are no other conferences other than the Big Ten.
Consequently, every team the Huskers face, including Capital One Bowl opponent Georgia, is from the Big Ten.
During interviews Friday morning, Martinez was asked about Georgia’s defense and seemingly forgot the Bulldogs played in the SEC.
“It’s just another typical Big Ten defense, I’d say,” Martinez replied. “If we go out there and play, we’ll be perfectly fine.”
According to Georgia beat writer Seth Emerson, Martinez said something similar about South Carolina's defense a year ago.
Maybe Martinez has the inside track on expansion? Also, it’s good to know that if Nebraska plays, Martinez thinks the Huskers will be fine as opposed to when they decided not to play against Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game.
Martinez did liken Georgia to Michigan State, which is actually a compliment. Michigan State’s defense ranks No. 4 nationally in total defense while Georgia is No. 27. Still, I think calling Georgia “typical” might be an understatement and he better hope Jarvis Jones and the rest of the Bulldogs’ strong linebacking corps doesn’t take exception to that.
