Nebraska kicker Mauro Bondi injured in motorcycle accident

Nebraska kicker Mauro Bondi was injured Thursday night when he crashed his motorcycle in Lincoln.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, Bondi suffered a broken collarbone after he “lost control” of his motorcycle “while navigating a curve and then hit the curb.” Bondi told police he was traveling about 45 miles per hour. The 21-year-old was cited for “negligent driving and operating a motorcycle without a valid license.”

The police report states that Bondi was wearing a helmet and his motorcycle was “totaled.”

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini released a short statement about the incident.

"Mauro Bondi was involved in a motorcycle accident on Thursday evening and suffered a broken clavicle in addition to bumps and bruises. We wish him the best for a quick recovery," Pelini said.

While freshman Drew Brown serves as the team’s field goal kicker, Bondi has been the team’s kickoff specialist the last two seasons. Bondi, a redshirt junior, has recorded 12 touchbacks after having 48 touchbacks in 2013.

Additionally, Bondi made his only field goal attempt of the season from 45 yards out against Florida Atlantic. In 2013, he made a 22-yard field goal and also made all eight of his extra points.

The Huskers will host Miami Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET.
