N.C. State fires off. coordinator; Memphis reportedly finds OC

N.C. State has parted ways with offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

The move was first reported late Saturday night. The Wolfpack finished the season 7-6 after losing to Mississippi State in the Belk Bowl.

“Every year I go through everything from A to Z,” N.C. State coach Dave Doeren told the News and Observer. “I’m still in the middle of that process.”

The Wolfpack's offense was not terrible in 2015. The team averaged 33.2 points per game and 5.63 yards per play. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 2,662 yards and 20 touchdowns and six interceptions while also running for 370 yards. However, the Wolfpack scored less than 20 points in three of its five regular season losses.

Canada had been with the team since Doeren was hired in 2013. He came to the Wolfpack with Doeren from Northern Illinois.

While N.C. State was making a change at offensive coordinator, Memphis was reportedly hiring its new top offensive assistant. According to Sports Illustrated, new Memphis coach Mike Norvell has hired Arizona State assistant Chip Long as his OC.

Norvell came to the Tigers from Arizona State, where he was the Sun Devils' offensive coordinator. Long has served as ASU's tight ends coach, offensive specialists coach and recruiting coordinator. Norvell is replacing Justin Fuente at Memphis. Fuente went to Virginia Tech after longtime Hokie coach Frank Beamer announced his retirement.

Arizona State lost 43-42 to West Virginia in Saturday night's Cactus Bowl.
