Will Muschamp: Freshman Skyler Mornhinweg will likely start for Florida at South Carolina

As the injury-riddled Florida Gators limp into Columbia for Saturday night's matchup with No. 10 South Carolina, it appears more likely they’ll do so with a freshman at quarterback.

With Jeff Driskel done for the year and Tyler Murphy dealing with a shoulder injury, Gators coach Will Muschamp said on his Thursday night radio show that redshirt freshman Skyler Mornhinweg will likely start against the Gamecocks.

“We feel good about him moving forward and being ready to go,” Muschamp said. “That’s the way it’s looking now.”

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Muschamp did not completely rule out Murphy from playing, calling it a “game-time decision,” and said nothing would be decided until Friday’s practice.

“We’ll see what Tyler can do tomorrow,” Muschamp said. “We’re not totally certain yet.”

If Mornhinweg gets the nod, he’ll face an extremely tough Gamecocks defense with a banged-up offensive line that has allowed 19 sacks in the past four games in front of him.

Muschamp called Mornhinweg, the son of Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, “a guy that’s extremely accurate with the ball.”

Go get ‘em, young man.
