Reports: Mizzou QB Maty Mauk remains suspended for Florida game

Drew Lock will get a chance to lead the Missouri Tigers to an upset over No. 11 Florida.

Lock started in place of suspended quarterback Maty Mauk on Saturday against South Carolina. He'll get a second start on Saturday as Mauk will remain suspended for the game.

Mauk, along with offensive lineman Malik Cuellar, was suspended before the game against South Carolina. The reason for his suspension has not been revealed and been termed a violation of team policies.

Before the suspension, some Missouri fans were calling for Lock, a true freshman, to become the starter after Lock was seeing limited playing time in Missouri's first four games. Just like in 2014, Mauk was completing a low percentage of his passes and also had four interceptions. Mauk is 57-of-110 passing for 654 yards and six touchdowns.

Lock was 21-of-28 passing with two touchdowns in Mizzou's 24-10 win over the Gamecocks. But he didn't throw the ball down the field and finished with 136 passing yards. Missouri's playbook has been clearly simplified with Lock in the game and if the Tigers want to have any shot of unlocking Florida's exceptional defense, the threat of a big pass play or two has to exist.

Lock, a native of Lee's Summit, Missouri, was a four-star prospect in the class of 2015 and the No. 7 pro-style quarterback according to Rivals. He became the first true freshman to start a game at quarterback for Missouri coach Gary Pinkel.
