The Mississippi State career of Kendrick Market is over.

Coach Dan Mullen said the senior safety tore his left ACL in the team's Saturday 30-17 loss to Texas A&M. Market isn't eligible for a medical redshirt because the injury happened in the team's fifth game of the year. He had played in four of them.

“Unfortunately that’s probably his last play of his career,” Mullen said Monday via the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. “It’s a shame.  You never know what it’s going to end. He's a young man that’s done so much.”

Market had 23 tackles in 2015. He's currently sixth on the team in tackles.

"All the safeties’ roles are going to have to increase,” Mullen said. “He’s a guy that you wanted to play every snap of the game and everybody else rotate.”

It's the second-straight season-ending injury for Market. He tore an Achilles against Mississippi in 2014 and rehabbed to return for the 2015 season. He was a member of the 2011 recruiting class and redshirted that season. He was replaced at safety by Brandon Bryant following the injury.

Mississippi State, 3-2, plays Troy on Saturday before playing Louisiana Tech on October 17. The Bulldogs then have five SEC games to close out the season.
