By staying and being one of the faces of Penn State's surprising post-sanctions 2012 season, quarterback Matt McGloin earned a special spot in Nittany Lions history.

He also earned a pretty unusual and somewhat random honor that will give him a permanent place at Penn State.

On Penn State's Worthington Scranton campus, the new baseball field will be named Matt McGloin Field according to

While the honor seems out of the blue, there are some ties. He went to West Scranton High School (no "The Office" jokes, we promise) and was an all-conference player in baseball. So it might be a bit of a reach to name a baseball field after a college football quarterback, but whatever.

There was a fundraising goal of $125,000 to name the McGloin space, and based on how popular he is among Penn State fans, that goal might get reached. McGloin was a walk-on who rose to be Penn State's starting quarterback. He recently told all about how he overcame the odds, comparing his grittiness to that of his hometown of Scranton.

He became a popular figure at Penn State, and now he will have a baseball field near his hometown named after him.
