Sunday was Fan Day at Marshall’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium, and the program had a surprise for those in attendance. After rumors floated around for a few days, the program unveiled brand new all-green Nike uniforms.
Take a look:
The reaction from fans on social media has generally been mixed, but the guys on the team seem pretty enthusiastic about the new jerseys.
“They’re pretty sweet,” said offensive tackle Sebastian Johannson, per the West Virginia Metro-News. “Everybody loves them, everybody got hyped about it so it’s all good.”
The players didn’t even know about the uniforms until Sunday morning, but when the new look was revealed to the players, they jumped right on board.
“I think we all knew something was up just the way the coaches were acting. They were acting kind of sketchy,” said tight end Eric Frohnapfel. “When we got in the meeting room some of the guys were missing so we were thinking we might get some new uniforms.”
The Thundering Herd equipment staff told the Metro-News that these green jerseys will replace the ones worn by the team in the past. There will be no changes to the team’s white away jerseys or the team’s helmet.
Marshall is coming off a 10-4 2013 season that culminated with a 31-20 win over Maryland in the Military Bowl. With Rakeem Cato back at quarterback, the Herd is considered a favorite to win the Conference USA title.
The team’s season opens up on the road at Miami (Ohio) on August 30. Rhode Island will travel to Huntington for Marshall’s home opener on September 6.
