Malik McDowell says he's officially signed with Michigan State

Malik McDowell

Malik McDowell is going to be a Michigan State Spartan.

The saga of the five-star defensive tackle looks like it's officially over, as McDowell tweeted Wednesday morning that he had faxed his letter of intent to the school.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio confirmed.

McDowell, a Michigan native and the top recruit in the state according to Rivals, had wanted to go to Michigan State all along. However, his mother wasn't on board with the decision. And since he was 17 and she was his legal guardian, he needed her signature.

Tuesday was the deadline to get his LOI in as well, so he faxed it in with 48 minutes to spare. His signing also boosted Michigan State's standing in the Rivals 2014 team recruiting rankings. Without him, the Spartans were 26th. With him, Michigan State is 22nd.

On National Signing Day February 5, McDowell held a ceremony to announce he was signing with the Spartans and his father said he had signed it. However, since his mother is the custodial parent, her signature was also necessary.

McDowell's mother had said she had a bad experience at Michigan State, but it seems she's now compliant with her son's wishes to go to Michigan State. The most dramatic episode of National Signing Day 2014 has reached its conclusion.
