With 24 hours until Mack Brown’s final game as head coach of the Texas Longhorns, Brown spent much of his media sessions deflecting questions about himself and instead trying to focus on his team’s upcoming game against Oregon.

“We are so excited about Oregon and Monday night,” Brown said. “So I can’t wait. Great week. I said at the first of the week we would focus on these kids and this game, and that’s absolutely what I’m going to do.”

That was the answer media received when Brown was asked about an Austin American-Statesman report that said Brown was trying to negotiate a higher buyout of as much as $1.3 million. Brown’s contract states he would receive $500,000 annually through 2020 under the title of special assistant to the university president.

Brown also was asked what he would have done differently this past season:

“I would have won all the games. That would have been the better thought for me if we could have done that – by a lot. Played a lot of guys, had happy moms and dads and happy media, happy fans. That would have been fun.”

Brown wouldn’t address his plans for the future, though there’s a lot of speculation that he would like to coach again.

“I have envisioned doing the best job I can do for this football team between now and Monday night, and it would be unfair for me to have even thought about anything else,” Brown said.
